Julia Jaakola, watercolor artist studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and earned her bachelor of Fine arts degree in Illustration. Formal training also included advertising and design. She returned to Minnesota to get back to her roots where she enjoyed camping and hiking, and working as an in house artist for Santo-Eto Futon Co. providing logo and product merchandising collateral, and as a freelance artist for several agencies in MPLS. Her passion for nature brought her to work for Clean Water Action and her drive to protect our natural environment allowed her to continue her studies of nature through painting and advocating for earth’s natural ecosystems, becoming a member of several environmental groups and working for Clean water Action. Julia was inspired to paint landscapes ranging from the California Redwoods, ocean, the north shore and Minnesota Boundary Waters areas, she began making private sales of water color paintings and her calling to help make the world a better place lead her to back to college. In 2003, Julia graduated from Bemidji State university with a bachelors degree in Education, and in 2008 expanded her license to visual art and enjoys teaching grades 1-12 and challenges student’s to apply their experiences in nature to motivate and guide them in art. Julia has served many hours of volunteer work creating murals and 3 dimensional installations for Zion Lutheran church in Anoka, continues to sell full color illustrations of nature and animals in theory natural habitats, and teaches occasional private painting lessons for Sr. citizens in the community.
